Arena for Grand Manan Island
I missed the boat on this one. Grand Manan Island finally built an indoor ice arena in 2010 and I did not notice. I only became aware of the new arena in April 2012 after I saw the Mars Bar commercial on tv. I saw that commercial too. Bunch of wimps if you ask me. Here on the prairies we don't whine about a little cold when watching hockey. Good luck with the upcoming diabetes outbreak from all those Mars bars.
In most arenas the ice surface is refrigerated by circulating a cold liquid through pipes in the concrete base under the ice. It is my understanding that in Grand Manan the ice is made by chilling the air in the entire building. So compared to most arenas the Grand Manan arena will feel much colder to the players and spectators.
