New Artificial Turf Field in Fredericton

The City of Fredericton is building a new artificial turf field adjacent to the new Grant-Harvey Centre.  The new field has not been named yet but it is expected to be open in the fall of 2010.  The new field will have lines for both soccer and football.  There is also a rumor of another artificial turf field to be built in Fredericton.  Just two years ago Fredericton had no artificial turf fields.  Now there is one on the UNB campus, a second one about to open on Knowledge Park Drive, and rumors of a third field.

New Artificial Turf Field in Oromocto

I drove to Oromocto today to see the new artificial turf field.  According to Louise Flight at the municipal office the field is called "Wasis Road Field" and it opened in late June.  The field is lined for football and soccer.  The field is opposite Oromocto High School on Wasis Road (obviously).  The field was built in the centre of the pre-existing running track.  The parking area can be reached via Winnebago Street.

York Arena in Fredericton gets a reprieve

The City of Fredericton is building a new arena with two ice surfaces called the Grant-Harvey Centre. The City was planning to tear down the old York Arena after the new Grant-Harvey Centre opens. A citizens group is attempting to save the York Arena. The group says the city needs the York Arena to provide additional ice time. The City council decided to review the cost of keeping the York Arena. There is more information here in this Daily Gleaner article.

NB Sport Facilities on Google Street View

Now that we have Google street view in NB the next logical step is to add street view links to each sport facility. Here are a few samples. I'll be working to add more street view links over the next few weeks:

Lady Beaverbrook Arena, Fredericton (Ice Arena)
Capital Winter Club, Fredericton (Curling Rink)
Fredericton Golf Club, Fredericton (Golf Course)
Mont Farlagne, Edmundston (Ski Hill)
Poley Mountain, Waterford (Ski Hill)
Keswick Valley Arena, Burtts Corner (Ice Arena)
Arena Cocagne, Cocagne (Ice Arena)
Thistle - St. Andrews, Saint John (Curling Rink)
Riverside Golf and Curling Club, Rothesay (Golf Course, Curling Rink)

Google Street View now available in most New Brunswick Communities

Google has released a major update to the street view data for Canada and it includes most major roads and communities in New Brunswick. This web page (http://bit.ly/d2rVuu) includes a map that shows all of the areas where street view is available. The streets that are highlighted in blue are covered by street view. The map is interactive and you can zoom-in to get more detail. Here is a sample view of the Fredericton area. You can see that there are some Fredericton neighborhoods that are not yet included such as Devon, Lincoln, Nashwaksis, Silverwood, parts of Hanwell, etc.

Here is a link to the Google street view of 985 College Hill Road: http://bit.ly/9UhjNp

Do you know how to access Google street view?

When you are viewing a Google Map there is an icon of a little orange man at the top of the zoom ladder. Just drag him onto the map and drop him on a street that is highlighted in blue.
