Updates to NB Sport Spots website

I finally had some free time today to add the lists of sport facilities to the new version of the NB Sport Spots website at Google Sites. I am sitting in the lodge at Crabbe Mountain while my son is skiing with a friend so I am filling my time updating the website. The next time we come up to Crabbe I'll be skiing too.

A nice feature of using Google Sites to build a website is that every page has a built-in seach tool in the upper right corner:

This makes it really easy to find a sport facility amongst the 194 lisitngs on NB Sport Spots.

Richibucto Arena Fire

The J Charles Daigle Memorial Arena was damaged by fire early this morning (December 10, 2009). The Arena is damaged badly enough that it will be closed for the remainder of the season and it is unknown if the arena will be repaired or replaced. The arena was undergoing renovations including a $250,000 repair for the roof. For more information please refer to this CBC story.

NB Sport Spots is UP!! - I love Google Sites

Well it did not take me long to create a new version of the NB Sport Spots website on Google Sites. I have to say that Google did a really good job with the new Google Sites. I would recommend it to anybody who needs to develop a simple website.

I had to give up some of the custom JavaScript that I wrote for the maps but I am fairly happy with what I was able to achieve in just a few hours. If you have any thoughts about the new website please post a comment here on the blog. I still have some work to do. I want to display lists for each type of facility. Google sites has a few features for displaying lists and spreadsheets. I'll have to do some experimenting to see which I like best.

NB Sport Spots is down - Google Pages finally closed by Google

I built the NB Sport Spots website with Google Page Creator. I have known for quite a while that Google was closing Google Page Creator. Google is trying to move all of the Google Page Creator users to the new Google Sites. Unfortunately Google Sites does not support the custom JavaScript that I use to display the maps. I am not sure when I'll have the time to develop a new website to host NB Sport Spots. In the meantime you can download all of my data in a KML file. KML files can be displayed on Google Earth or Google Maps:
