Fredericton Opens the Grant-Harvey Centre

I recently stopped by the new Grant-Harvey Centre at 600 Knowledge Park Drive in Fredericton.  The new facility features an Olympic size ice surface, an NHL size ice surface, a walking track, and community meeting rooms.  The layout is very similar to Willie O'Ree Place on Cliffe Street, Fredericton.  Here are a few photos:

Here is a photo from August 9th showing the progress on Fredericton's newest sport facility.  The Grant-Harvey Centre will include two ice surfaces. Adjacent to the Grant-Harvey Centre is an indoor tennis facility and an outdoor artificial turf field.

Arena for Grand Manan Island

I missed the boat on this one. Grand Manan Island finally built an indoor ice arena in 2010 and I did not notice. I only became aware of the new arena in April 2012 after I saw the Mars Bar commercial on tv. Here is a link to a very nice mini documentary on the new arena - http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ByklUTvyapU

ScotiaBank Park North opening soon

The City of Fredericton will soon be opening the new artificial turf field at ScotiaBank Park North.  ScotiaBank has provided funding to the City of Fredericton for the construction of sport facilities.  I was not aware that construction had started on the city's second artificial turf field and I was very surprised to see the field is practically complete.  Workers were finishing some landscaping around the new field when I visited the site on  August 29th.

New Artificial Turf Field in Fredericton

The City of Fredericton is building a new artificial turf field adjacent to the new Grant-Harvey Centre.  The new field has not been named yet but it is expected to be open in the fall of 2010.  The new field will have lines for both soccer and football.  There is also a rumor of another artificial turf field to be built in Fredericton.  Just two years ago Fredericton had no artificial turf fields.  Now there is one on the UNB campus, a second one about to open on Knowledge Park Drive, and rumors of a third field.

New Artificial Turf Field in Oromocto

I drove to Oromocto today to see the new artificial turf field.  According to Louise Flight at the municipal office the field is called "Wasis Road Field" and it opened in late June.  The field is lined for football and soccer.  The field is opposite Oromocto High School on Wasis Road (obviously).  The field was built in the centre of the pre-existing running track.  The parking area can be reached via Winnebago Street.
